Double potholder
Materials: Cotton yarn, use the yarn of your choice and adapt the number of rounds tothe thickness of the yarn. Thick yarn makes for fewer rounds.
Nedle that fits the yarn
Gauge: Not important
Abbreviations:
Ch Chain
Sc Single crochet
Dc Double crochet
Notes:
This potholder can be made in as many colour variations as you chose. I cut the yarn between each colour change and weave in the ends on the back.
Always chain three to make the first dc of a round.
Do not turn, the potholder is worked in rounds
Pattern
Round 1 Chain 2 and make 8 sc in the second chain from the hook (you can also choose to start with the magic loop method).
Round 2 2 dc in each stitch. (16)
Round 3 2 dc between each dc on the previous round. (32)
Round 4 From now on you should only work in the spaces between the groups of two dc from the previous round. Start the round with making a corner, *work in the same space 2 dc ch1 2 dc, then work 2 dc in the next three spaces* Repeat 3 times end with a slipstitch into the first corner. (40)
Round 5 Start in the corner of the previous round. *2 dc ch1 2 dc, then work 2 dc in the next four spaces* Repeat 3 times end with a slipstitch into the first corner. (48)
Repeat round 5 until the potholder reaches the size wanted, it will increase by 8 dc each round. If you are using a thin yarn I recommend working 14 rounds.
When you have made both sides of the potholder you should start the assembly by holding them wrong sides together, tie the center yarn tails together tightly to prevent the potholder from separating and coming apart when washing.
Start the assembly round in the corner. You will now be working each stitch through both of the sides of the potholder. 2 sc in the corner, then work 1 sc in the next two stitches, then work 1 sc in the space between the group of two dc from the previous round. Repeat this till you reach the next corner. Now you should make a loop for hanging the potholder. Make 1 sc in the corner space, ch 25, make a slipstitch into the corner space, work 25 sc in the chain end with 1 sc in the corner space again. Continue making sc around as stated above.
